Authorities decided that viewers were not encouraged to heed medical advice in a sponsored video that advocated for a low-calorie diet.
The UK’s advertising watchdog banned an Instagram post by Katie Price due to its irresponsible content that promoted a low-calorie diet without disclosing that it was an advertisement and made unauthorized claims about weight loss.
The model can be seen cooking throughout the day and discussing her attempts to lose weight in the Instagram reel, which was posted on her account in August 2023. She also frequently promotes the Skinny Food Co. line of low-calorie meals.
Here is the Instagram post she made.
The final image showed that the total calories consumed throughout the day’s meals were only 755, or slightly more than one-third of what is advised for an adult woman.
Diets under 800 calories per day must push people to follow medical advice and should only be used temporarily, according to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The fact that the post was a sponsored advertisement was only mentioned once, and that was in the written description that went with it. The user had to actively tap on the hashtag to see the entire caption.
The third complaint, which demanded that weight loss and other health-related claims be registered with a regulator, was also upheld.
